Sciatica & Chiropractic Treatment
Sciatica, a form of back pain, is a debilitating condition that could literally cause so much pain to the sufferer that this individual can no longer walk. This is obviously an extreme case, but it’s really tough to deal with nonetheless.
There are a number of different types of pain that one might suffer from when dealing with back pain. Sometimes it’s a sharp, dull, ache and even causes pins and needles in certain parts of the body. The pain is so powerful that it can travel down the back into the buttocks and even into the legs.
As you can imagine, dealing with sciatica is no picnic. In fact, certain people suffering from this condition might end up in the hospital because their back pain is so severe. Yet traditional doctors only offer drugs or the possibility of serious invasive surgery. Why go through all of that pain, trouble and torture when there is a better alternative as a treatment?
How Chiropractors Treat Back Pain
The main cause of sciatica is sciatic nerve compression. When this nerve is compressed, it can result in a number of unwanted symptoms including the loss of feeling, limb paralysis, and paralysis in one or a group of muscles and it can even result in insomnia.
Proper diagnosis is the key to eliminating sciatica with chiropractic efforts. The first step of the chiropractor is to determine precisely what is causing pressure on the sciatic nerve. Once this determination is complete, the doctor can then begin to explore back pain treatment.
As you can imagine, there are a number of different ways to treat sciatic back pain. They include:
- Cold/ice therapy – this helps to reduce inflammation. Once the inflammation is reduced, this will control pain in the sciatic nerve. This is one treatment that is very effective.
- Ultrasound therapy – an ultrasound will create heat through soundwaves that will penetrate deep into your tissue. This will help to increase circulation, reduce cramping, stiffness, pain, swelling and muscle spasms.
- Tens unit – this portable muscle stimulating machine can vary in intensity of electrical current. It’s perfect for eliminating acute pain and muscle spasms.
- Spinal adjustments – spinal adjustments are the core of chiropractic care. By properly manipulating the spine, this frees up restricted movement and restores misaligned vertebrae to their proper position on the spinal column.
