Why Chiropractic Intervention Is the Perfect Choice to Eliminate Headaches
Headaches are a serious potential problem and need to be treated as such. When a person regularly suffers from headaches, this can become a debilitating condition that could have a negative effect on their life with grave consequences.
Headaches do not just appear out of nowhere. They occur for a reason, even the ones that are infrequent. Headache are a signal that your body is trying let you know something is definitely wrong and further investigation or medical intervention needs to take place.
Think of it this way, any pain, like headaches, is the indicator that something in your body has lost so much function that it’s moving into the failure range.
Some people might experience a headache because of poor habits that they indulged in the night before. Excessive drinking, smoking and eating can certainly cause a person to experience this type of pain. But they are not the only reasons nor are they the most likely reasons.
Some other causes of Headaches are; improper diet, excessive hunger (low blood sugar), bad lighting, too much noise, air pollution, infection, eyestrain and more can be a real cause for this condition. Thus, diabetics are predisposed to suffer from them.
But the most common cause of headaches is the direct link between structure of the spine to the nerves, circulatory system, hormones and brain.
Can a Chiropractor Do Anything to Help Alleviate This Pain?
Yes, chiropractors have a number of different tools in their arsenal that can alleviate headache pain. For the most part, the chiropractor will focus upon certain areas of the body including the joints, muscles and nerves as they are the primary structural source of the pain.
We begin with an examination, which is a conversational and physical investigation to determine all the factors involved that could potentially be the cause. Based on what factors are uncovered it helps the chiropractor determine whether or not chiropractic care is the right course of treatment. Furthermore, this exam will help the chiropractor determine whether or not further diagnostic procedures need to be done, such as MRI’s, CT’s or X-rays to determine the exact cause and to what extent it is spinal related. If it’s spinal related, it’s typically due to a general misalignment of the entire spine or a specific section of it, most commonly the neck, otherwise known as a subluxation.
Once the spinal examination is complete, the chiropractor can also perform other types of adjustments as a means to alleviate irritation and tension in the head and neck. These methods work wonders for alleviating headache pain.
In fact, there was a study done where 87 people with migraine headaches were treated with chiropractic adjustments over a period of two years. Overall, 85% of the women experienced tremendous headache improvement through the chiropractic adjustments. The numbers were lower for the men, where 50% of the men experienced a marked relief of pain. However, in these studies, the patients underwent manual adjustments and did not receive any type of structural correction or spinal remodeling intervention.
In my personal practice, we begin by addressing this type of pain at the structural level, by doing so I have experience nearly 100% resolution of migraines and over 90% resolution of all other types.
Will It Take Long for the Headaches to Go Away?
Unfortunately, every patient is different. Most people achieve significant results very quickly. Others must undergo care for several weeks as the headache slowly dissipates.
